Jammu, January 10

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti  asked the countrymen to ponder why Jammu and Kashmir is in turmoil  against the backdrop of the fact  this Muslim majority state rejected  two-nation theory  and threw its lot with India .

Mehbooba Mufti whose government was cornered by the opposition parties, particularly National Conference  and Congress  for its inability to stop the killing of “ innocents,,”  shared the concern over  violence interrupting the situation in the Valley.  “ We share this concern,” she said while replying to the debate on motion of thanks to Governor’s address to the joint session of the state legislature on January 2 .

She was replying in  the legislative Assembly where former Chief Minister and National Conference leader  Omar Abdullah  had cornered  her government for its “ failures in containing the deteriorating situation in  the Valley  where more and more youth were joining militancy and were also willing to   take part in  certain-death  fidayeen attacks , “ on Tuesday. But he was not there to listen to her reply  on Wednesday evening citing the continuing civilian killings in Valley as a reason of protest for  boycotting her reply in the House.

Mehbooba  agreed that the situation  was “ fragile” with encounters,  fidayeen attacks and other modes of violence .Reiterating that this violent situation cannot be contained  by violence by police or army . “ There is a sense that there is an issue that needs to be addressed.”

The country men should  think over it as what has gone wrong in Kashmir that despite being Muslim majority rejected the  division on the religious basis . “ We are for India and we depend on the country for everything  but our urges too should be understood and reciprocated.”
