Director General of Police S P Vaid has advised Inspector General of Police (  Traffic)  Basant Rath  against violating rules by checking vehicles  without being in uniform and asked him to desist from such activities as the violation of the service rules may warrant action  under law , according to the informed sources who have had access to a communication made on Friday– February 22, 2018.

In  a letter addressed to the  I G Traffic , the DGP has taken cognizance of the videos on social media  showing him doing  odd activities and roaming on roads without wearing uniform, snatching helmets, mobile phones .

The letter states that all these acts are not only “ illegal but also unbecoming of a police officer  under service rules. It reminds Rath of the  J&K Motor Vehicle Act 1988 that clearly states that no officer shall do any checking of any vehicle without proper uniform.

Vaid’s letter , sources said , states:  “These acts of yours  are bringing disrepute  and bad name to the police organisation.”

“ You are hereby advised  and warned to refrain from such acts in future. You shall always remain in proper uniform while discharging official duties as mandated in law and Police rules.,” the letter reads .

The letter also warns the IG Traffic that  “ Any violation to these directions  shall be viewed seriously and action under law shall be initiated against you.”
