External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj reached Abu Dhabi on Friday, 1 March, to attend the foreign ministers’ meet of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) states, an influential grouping of 57 countries.
Swaraj will attend the inaugural plenary session of the two-day meeting later on Friday. It is for the first time that India has been invited to an OIC meeting as guest of honour, PTI reported.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted saying Swaraj is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings during her visit.
India has been invited by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the ‘Guest of Honour’.
At the conclave, Swaraj will underscore India’s long and historical relationship with the OIC member countries, sources said on Thursday, as per ANI.
