Huge amount of 39 lacs have been looted from J&K Bank branch at Sarthal in Kishtwar district Tuesday night.

According to the sources the amount include 20 lacs in news currency and remaining was old currency.

The incident came to light when locals spotted the locks of the main shutter of bank broken and shutter opened today morning.  The Bank was running in three private shops hired by the bank. The police have registered a case and have launched hunt for the looters.

This is second incident of looting J&K Bank in the state. Rs. 13 lacs were looted two days ago from a bank branch near Charar-e-Sharief in Budgam district of Kashmir Valley.

Centre government has asked J&K government to provide adequate security to Banks and ATMs in the state.

Rs.2000 new currency notes were recovered from two militants killed yesterday in Kashmir.
