“Don’t misguide and divide people over the CAA,” Amit Shah said,” Amit Shah said.

Jammu, January 12:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday slammed the Congress for ‘creating confusion’ over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) among the minorities.

Amit Shah challenged former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, asking him to point out the provision where the CAA mentions withdrawal of citizenship from a person.

“The Congress and company are spreading rumours that the Muslims are going to lose their citizenship,” the BJP chief said during at rally at the historic Ridge Maidan in Delhi to mark the second anniversary of BJP government in the state.

“I challenge Rahul Baba that let me know if there is even a single line in the Act regarding the withdrawal of anyone’s citizenship. Don’t misguide and divide people over the CAA,” Amit Shah said.

Busting the CAA rumours allegedly being spread by the Congress, Amit Shah said that he wanted to tell every citizen of this country that there is no provision to take away the citizenship of any minority community in this bill.

“There is a provision to provide citizenship to the brothers of minority communities who came from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Please do not spread rumours. Please do not spoil the peace of the country, do not mislead the people. If you have any fact, bring that to the people,” Amit Shah said.

Going back to partition, Amit Shah reminded of the 1950 Nehru-Liaquat Pact to the Congress, saying that both the leaders had assured that India and Pakistan will protect the minority communities.

“Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan persecuted the minority communities on the basis of religion. However, India followed the agreement with trust,” the home minister said.

Amit Shah said that every person belonging to the minority communities should feel safe and it is his govenment’s constitutional responsibility to ensure their safety.

Slamming Pakistan, Amit Shah said how the people of minority communities were treated is also clear from their population.

“The minority population which was 23 per cent was reduced to three percent. People were persecuted on the basis of religion,” Amit Shah said.

Narrating stories of sufferings that came in way of refugees belonging to minority communities, Amit Shah said these people were leading miserable lives as they had no shelter and jobs.

“Nobody cared about these people. Narendra Modi brought the Citizenship Amendment Bill which has now become CAA. I want to tell the people of the country, particularly the brothers and sisters of the minority communities that this Act is available on the website of Government of India and they can read it,” he said.

Amit Shah also criticised the UPA government for the widespread corruption prevalent during its 10-year tenure.

“It is not Mony Baba Manmohan Singh who is the prime minister but the 56-inch chest, Narendra Modi who is taking decisions after decisions,” Amit Shah said.

The home minister also hit out at the Congress for delaying tactics in Ram Janmabhoomi case and said the Supreme Court made it possible that a sky-touching temple of Lord Rama would be constructed at the same place where he was born.
