Army today recovered smoke grenades and anti-riot stinger grenades from Banihal area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The Defence sources informed that army during road opening of NH-44, this morning, observed suspicious material near Shaitani Nala in Banihal. Immediately, Dog squad and Bomb disposal squad of army were brought to the site and 14 smoke Grenades and four Anti-Riots Stinger Grenades were found.

The smoke grenades are vintage in nature and bear marking of TSU, BSF, Tekanpur. The nearby area was searched, however no further explosives or otherwise were found. Later the grenades were handed over to local police at Banihal Police Station.

The quick response by Army to the contingency ensured safe passage of vehicles & person on NH-44. The security forces are continuing with their persistent operations to keep Ramban district and NH 44 sanitised.
