Sri Sri Rural Development Program Trust (SSRDP) under the aegis of Art of living in Collaboration with Society of Pollution and Environment Conservation Scientists (SPECS), organised a 4 days training workshop from 2nd to 5th July at District Jail, Amphala Jammu to train and equip 25 Jail inmates in making and repair of LED Bulbs, Bamboo carved decorative lights. The jail staff including Dinesh Sharma Senior superintendent Jammu Jail, Additional Superintendent Tejinder Kour, Deputy Superintended Feroz Ahmed , Asst. Superintendent Nasir Ahmed, SO Sajjad Ahmed along with Mr. Savinder Gupta, J&K Coordinator AOL-SSRDP were present on the occasion.

Yogesh Bhatt senior trainer from SPECS said that during the 4 days training program the jail inmates were trained and equipped in making electronic LED Driver, LED Circuit, Bamboo craft and assembling of bamboo LED decorative energy efficient lights. The trainees enthusiastically participated in the training and learnt the art of assembling, testing, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of energy efficient lights . He further said that repairing of a LED Bulbs can minimize e-garbage and global warming as well as climate change. The jail inmates made more than 50 decorative lights during the training period.

Mr. Savinder Gupta, J&K Coordinator AOL-SSRDP said that the Art of Living foundation aims at making stress and violence free society by offering highly effective educational and self development programs. Sri Sri Rural Development Program Trust under the aegis of Art of Living operates with the single-minded focus of empowering and transforming the lives of rural India and people working in or incarcerated within the criminal justice system by providing technical skills as well as soft skills that reduces stress, heals trauma and provides practical knowledge of how to handle negative emotions in order to live to one’s highest potential and contribute to society in a positive way.He informed that AOL-SSRDP is already running various skill development programs across Jails in J&K .Computer training is being imparted in Pulwama and Srinagar Jail and Electrician Training in Jammu and Kot Balwal Jail apart from various other self development and Yoga programs.He further said that LED is the answer for the future lighting system as it consumes 80% less electricity in comparison with ordinary bulbs. This LED manufacturing training will prove to be a boon for the Jail inmates as they have learnt the skill of tomorrow.

Lastly he thanked and appreciated the efforts of the DGP Prison Mr. Dilbag Singh(IPS), and Mr. Dinesh Sharma, Superintendent Jammu Jail for taking keen interest for the betterment and welfare of the inmates. He also thanked Mr. Yogesh Bhatt and Ram Tirath trainers from SPECS for nicely conducting the program.

Dinesh Sharma, Superintendent, District Jail Jammu while speaking on the occasion lauded the efforts of Savinder Gupta J&K coordinator AOL-SSRDP and Yogesh Bhatt and Ram Tirath trainers from SPECS for organising such a wonderful training program for empowering the jail inmates for wage and self employment . He further emphasised that these trained inmates will become an asset both for their family and society and expressed the desire that AOL-SSRDP /SPECS will take more such initiatives and assured the organisers for his full support and cooperation in all such endeavours
