Jammu, June20:

The BJP is not keen on early Assembly elections  despite having withdrawn the support to the  PDP led coalition government on Tuesday .

The party sources told JKNT that the elections are not on agenda . “ The alternatives are available,”  a stop leader of the party said .

Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has  told a news agency that  immediate government formation is not possible, but in the days to come something might happen.

Other leaders also maintained that they were not willing to face early elections  in  Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP has 25 seats in the Assembly but it can count on three others, including one independent  Pawan Gupta from Udhampur , two members of  Sajjad gani Lone’s Peoples Conference . That leaves it short of 16  to touch the magic figure of 44 to form the government. It is in touch with some of the PDP members who were willing to continue the arrangement with BJP, and also from other parties.

Practically, the Assembly is still left with  at least three years of its life. Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has a life of six years . Since the first session of this Assembly was held in March 2015, its life is up to  March  2021.

BJP wants to utilize this period to consolidate its constituency in Hindu-dominated region where it has  lost a lot of ground   after it allied with PDP and played second fiddle to the Kashmir-centric party.
