Srinagar, May 12:

The Project Vijayak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which looks after road projects in Ladakh region, would recommend to the Government of India that Kargil-Batalik-Khaltse road should be declared as a National Highway. Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan told Greater Kashmir that apart from the recommendation, the Project has also assured the road would be upgraded.

Khan said the BRO has started realignment of Kargil-Batalik road at Hambotingla Pass, which was a long-pending demand of people of this area.

This will help reduce traffic obstruction caused by snow avalanches during winters,” he said.

To improve the condition of the 49-km road, the BRO would blacktop 27kms and realign 4kms.

On Friday, Khan was accompanied by Chief Engineer Project Vijayak Brigadier Amit Singh Sohal and Commanding Officer RajuLohani to Hambutingla Pass to inaugurate construction work on the 4.2-km-long Barchee-Choo-Lahling road.

Sohal told Khan that this year special funds would be allotted for snow clearance work on this road during winter. Khan was also told that the BRO has also released funds for repair and maintenance of a damaged structure on the roadside.
