KARGIL SEPTEMBER 13:
Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the University of Ladakh.
Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, C Phunsog, Executive Councillor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Mujtaba, Executive Councillor for Tourism, Er Punchoq Tashi and Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, several issues including the present office set up of the University at Purgi Guest House Kargil, identification of land near Kurbathang Plateau or alternate space for establishment of University campus in Kargil district besides other related issues came up for discussion.
Vice Chancellor Cluster University of Ladakh C Phunsoq informed the meeting that Ladakh University is presently in the process of preparing to start construction work on the University campuses in Leh and Kargil. He said that while land has already been identified near Degree College Leh, land identification and allotment in the case of Kargil also needs to be done on priority so as to start the construction work.
The CEC and DC Kargil informed the VC that decision with regard to the identification of land for establishment of University campus at Kurbathang Plateau would be taken only after the finalization of land by Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of Kargil Airport at Kurbathang area.
The VC further informed the meeting that statues and regulations for the University have also been drafted which would be approved by the University Council in due course of time.
Various other issues like framing of proposals for special package for development of Degree Colleges in Kargil under the new Finance Commission, provision of funds for coaching for competitive exams under Tribal Sub Plan, establishment of coaching institute for different national level exams within the University of Ladakh and other related issues also came up for discussion.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor, SE PWD Kargil Ved Prakash, Registrar Cluster University of Ladakh Imteeaz Kacho, Controller of Examinations Prof Deskyong Namgyal besides other concerned officers also attended the meeting.
