New Delhi, July 7:

A Congress senior leader from Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday resigned from the party, saying that the leadership has gone into a coma. He also said that nobody has been around to hear the grievances of the Congress members in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a letter to Ghulam Ahmed Mir, president of Jammu And Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Mohammad Iqbal Malik said, “The party leadership has gone into a coma. Nobody is here to hear our grievances.”

In a press release, the Congress leader from Darhal Rajouri said that the party is not the same as when he had joined a decade ago.

Listing out the reasons to leave the party, Mohammad Iqbal Malik said, “I tendered my resignation from the primary membership of Congress because of some unfavourable circumstances, the primary and prominent among which are, growing lobby culture within the state as well as at the national level.

“The Indian National Congress which I joined a decade ago is sadly not the same today, thereby I am leaving it for the sake of the interest of the people of my constituency who always remained primary to me,” Mohammad Iqbal Malik said.

The development came a little after Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that he had resigned as the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Earlier in the day, Mumbai Congress president Milind Deora abruptly quit from his post on Sunday, barely three months before the crucial Maharashtra Assembly elections.

He has recommended a provisional set up of collective leadership of three senior leaders to oversee the city unit until the upcoming polls. On his part, Deora is likely to move to New Delhi for a national role in the Congress.
