Principal Secretary Transport Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today chaired a meeting on Road Safety in J&K here at Civil Secretariat.
The meeting was also attended by IGP, Traffic Police, J&K, Alok Kumar, Managing Director JKSRTC, Owais Ahmad, who is also Transport Commissioner, Director General (Finance), Transport Department, Joint Director School Education Department Jammu, Additional Secretary Road Safety Council, RTO, Jammu and other concerned.
The meeting was informed that Rs 12.50 crore has been released for the current fiscal for road safety in Jammu and Kashmir. It was also informed that a proposal for vibrant Traffic Management System will be framed wherein several control room would be set-up across J&K for better traffic management and will also study road conditions and frame recommendations for the same.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Samoon directed the concerned officers to expedite the process for the completion of centrally funded projects like Inspection Certification Centers (ICC) and Institute of Driving and Training Research (IDTR) at Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
It was also informed that ICC and IDTR is coming up at Samba at an estimated cost of Rs 14.40 crore and Rs 17 crore respectively. Similarly ICC is coming up at Harwan Srinagar and IDTR at Budgam in Kashmir. The Principal Secretary said that a requisition has been made to Government of India to release remaining funds for the same so that the projects would be completed within stipulated time.
On the occasion, the Principal Secretary also called for the strengthening of JKSRTC fleet in J&K with main focus for Chenab Valley region.
Dr Samoon also asked Director School Education Jammu to organise road awareness and safety programmes under Road Safety Clubs in high schools and higher secondary schools of Jammu Division.
