Dry spell to continue in plains till Dec 31

Jammu, December 27: There is a good news for those planning to celebrate last evening of 2017 at famous Hill Stations of Jammu and Kashmir as according to weather experts, fresh snowfall hit the upper reaches of the mountainous state this year end, but plains will remain dry with little fluctuation of temperature.

According to Weather Expert, Prof Mahinder Singh from SQUAST informed JK News Today that hill resorts of Jammu and Kashmir like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg in Kashmir and Patnitop, Sanasar, Bhaderwah in Jammu region may witness fresh snowfall on the evening of Dec 30 or 31, 2017, which is a dream come true for those tourists, who are planning to celebrate the New Year at these stations.

Meanwhile, as far as plains of Jammu are concern, people have to wait for another week or so for next spell of rains as weather will remain dry till Dec 31. Some areas like Katra or Udhampur may receive little rains which will dip the temperature in plains.

“On Dec 29,30 or 31 there may be snowfall at Upper Reaches, but as far as plains are concern, these areas including Jammu City there are very less chances of rains and rains remain scattered in plains,” added Prof Singh.

It is worth mentioning that the 40-days spell of harsh winters traditionally called as Chilai Kallan has been started in Kashmir since last week.

Flow of tourists to celebrate New Year eve at Jammu and Kashmir is also a tradition for many and this week is peak tourist week as people from outside states and even abroad throngs to Hill Stations of J&K and many also plan to welcome New Year morning after having darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi at Trikuta Hills in Jammu.
