Syed Ali Shah Geelani, until yesterday an iconic pro-Pakistan face in Kashmir , is out of favour of the Pakistani establishment . It is just a repeat of the history , which the separatist leaders realise only after they are discarded as if they never existed in Pakistan’s frame and its narrators .
Geelani should have known that it was coming. But it took long for him to understand that how Pakistani establishment works . It guards its interests and never reposes trust in anyone forever. The simple conclusion is that it doesn’t trust anyone . Geelani has said it all now, but it is too late , for he , at the behest of Pakistan , destroyed generations of young people to secure the illusory goals.
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in his speech September 19, 2001, days after 9/11 , had bowed t the dictates of America . He had decried Pakistan’s own creation, Taliban,. Not only that , he had also and vowed to fight and finish Taliban in Afghanistan Of course , he did so, for he knew that the Americans knew the strong nexus that Pakistan had with Taliban and Al-Qaeda , the global terror network, over the years . Pervez Musharraf did what he was told , he turned the back on Taliban and helped America in purging the Taliban from Afghan soil.
Pervez’s slogan was “Pakistan first”- that meant that nothing else matters to Pakistan than its own survival.
That was the moment when much of the Kashmiri leadership understood that Pakistan cannot be relied upon , and they had started getting attracted to the idea of India . This gained traction with Atal Behari Vajpyee’s talk of Kashmir solution within the parameters of “Insaniyat”.
All those in Kashmir who were hoping that Pakistan would be able to do something for them at some stage after they felt bad following abrogation of Article 370 in August last year should have drawn their lessons. “Pakistan first” is its core , and it can sacrifice the interests of its own creations , Taliban in Afghanistan ,
The Hurriyat Conference led by Pakistan’s favourite ideologue and jhadi recruiter Geelani through his oratory and other means as direced by Pakistan from time to time , must have learnt its lessons that it wasted time in pursuing Pakistan’s agenda in Kashmir and destroying its own people .
