Jammu, December 31

Jammu and Kashmir Governor  N N Vohra  while conveying his greetings for the New Year to the people of the state has  stressed on “ bringing in of sustained peace in the state”.

His New Year eve message  containing his prayer that   “2017 would bring  sustained peace  and normalcy , which would promote  progress, prosperity and well being of  all sections of society,” is  extraordinary . Given what the state, particularly the Kashmir Valley had to undergo  during 2016  when peace was shattered by the violence, killings and terror attacks and street protests , the prayer for “ sustained peace”  holds a special meaning .

The state had  had one of the worst experiences in 2016 , when the terrorism and the  massive protests disrupted the life and normalcy  disappeared for weeks together . During the year, like his role in 2008 and 2010 disturbances , the Governor devoted  his time, energy 24×7  and  summoned his  experience  to  restore shades of normalcy in tandem with the state government  and civil society and educational experts . The normalcy is fragile .

In his message the Governor wished the people of Jammu and Kashmir a bright and happy New Year and prayed that 2017 would bring sustained peace and normalcy, which would promote progress, prosperity and well being of all sections of the society.
