Jammu, December  22

Chief Electoral Officer J&K , Shantmanu,  has  told Governor  N N Vohra that the panchayat elections  will depend on the preparation of the government , while his own electoral rolls would get updated by January 14.

Similarly, he has stated that the parliamentary bye-election  to Anantnag and  Srinagar parliamentary constituency would be held in April.

Vohra had  recently assented the panchayat (amendment) bill  thus clearing decks for the panchayat elections , which the  Governor  had been insisting should be held earliest possible .

In Kashmir holding of panchayat elections will depend  upon  law and order situation . This situation has shown some improvement but it cannot be called a risk-free situation for the crucial elections .
