Himalayan Sports Drass Lifted Forever In Operation Ice Hockey Cup

Himalayan Sports Drass lifted the Operation Vijay Ice Hockey Tournament 2017 organized by the Indian Army in collaboration with Himalayan Organization Drass at Bhimbhat Ice Hockey Rink and Around 6 teams participated in the tournament.

Himalayan Sports Drass defeated City Club Drass by 1 goal and lifted the trophy.

On this occasion Commander 56 Mountain Brigade Brigadier Hitesh Bhalla was the Chief Guest and Political Advisory to CEC LAHDC Kargil Haji Mohammad Shafi was the Guest of Honour.

Appreciating the players on this occasion Brigadier Hitesh Bhallah told that besides traditional sports like Horse Polo and Archery youths of Kargil are now days excelling in winter sports like Ice Hockey, snow ski etc and taken the level upto the top most level that is international standard and Indian Army is part of these developments.

He told that we have national and international level players from Drass and to groom other youths from these areas Indian Army will look for international standard coaching camps in future.

He also appreciated the Jawans of Indain Army and volunteers of Himalayan Organization, who cleared the Ice Hockey ring and its approach road where there were more than 8 feet snow and prepared such a classic Ice hockey rink in this month of March. Hitesh Bhalla told that it was unfortunate that due to snowfall they were not able to conduct the event in the month of January which in which the weather remains conducive for organsing the ICE Hockey Tournament.

Brigadier Bhallah further tld that Indian Army is also organizing a Ski Coaching Camp at Drass for the youths of Drass.

Haji Mohammad Shafi thanked the Indian Army for encouraging the youths of Kargil in such sports and utilizing the lean periods of winter and harvesting this lean period for making these youths National and International level players.

Answering to a question related to SRO/Job Opportunity for Iqbal Junior who representing India in International Ice Hockey Tournament, Haji Mohammad Shafi told that he will take up the matter with CEC LAHDC Kargil as well as with the State Government as they have taken the case of International player Zia Ul Haq.

Earlier while talking to Our Correspondent First International Player from Kargil Iqbal Junior told that he is playing Ice Hockey from the Age of 16 and represented India at International Level, but government has deprived him from all those benefits he deserves. He further told that still he encourages youths to play this game and all his brothers five in number excel in this game and pursuing the game as profession and hopes that government would think for the future of poor players like him.

Later the Chief Guest distributed Prize money, medal and Trophy amongst the players and teams.
