Prof Ramesh C Gaur Delivers 7th Benchmark series lecture at JU

In order to sensitize the faculty members, students, scholars and civil society at large about the various issues and challenges being faced in various diverse fields of education, the HRDC,University of Jammu under the aegis of RUSA 2.0 initiated the benchmark series lectures. In continuation to the series of lectures by eminent experts and internationally acclaimed personalities. HRDCJU today organized 7th benchmark series lecture on “Plagiarism, its detection and avoidance vis-à-vis UGC plagiarism regulation 2018” by Prof Ramesh C Gaur, Dean and Director (Library & Information), Indira Gandhi National Centre, Minister of Culture, Government of India. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Gaur exhorted upon anti-plagiarism strategies for students, researchers and educators and stressed on strengthening the library system. He expressed concern that inspite of India being the large producer of research outputs but unfortunately when it comes to citation, it lags behind, which is a matter of concern. Prof Gaur articulated that in some cases, researchers resort to plagiarism not due to bad intentions but due to lack of knowledge about the ethics of writing or disorganization, poor study habits, lack of strict academic discipline and so on. He further contemplated that plagiarism is a form of theft so it needs attention as well as action.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu in his presidential remarks complimented the HRDJU for organizing the lecture on plagiarism which has become a menace. He informed that University of Jammu had put in place a very effective policy for checking the menace and introduced various checks and balances to eradicate the problem of plagiarism. Prof Dhar expressed satisfaction that faculty members and research scholars are focusing more on the quality of research work and desisting from publishing their work in predatory journals .Prof Dhar further informed that at University level various Committees have been constituted which are monitoring and suggesting various reforms to eradicate the problem of plagiarism. Prof Dhar advised the faculty members and the students that one should be well aware of the intellectual property rights and due credit should be given to the researcher whose work you cite in your research work. Prof Dhar also complimented Prof Naresh Padha, Coordinator, RUSA 2.0 for putting his best foot forward and being the vital force behind RUSA.
Earlier, Prof Rahul Gupta, Director, HRDC delivered the formal welcome address. Prof Sangeeta Gupta, Head, Dept of Library and Information Sciences introduced the keynote speaker to the audience. Sh Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty delivered the formal vote of thanks.
Among others Prof Jigar Mohd, Prof K.S Charak, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Prof Lalit Sen, Prof Vinod Sharma, faculty members, students, scholars, staff were also present on the occasion.
