Jammu, February 17:

Twin brother sister duo, Swapnil and Swapnila, children of Sarmistha and Shib Narayan Acharya from Jammu have won this year’s Online Open Photography Competition organised by the Indian Army on Army Day 2018 under the aegis of Additional Director General of Public Interface (ADGPI). The theme was Indian Army – Symbol of Nation Building.

The children received the certificates and cash prizes from Army HQ through their school authorities. Swapnil was awarded a cash prize of rupees twenty thousand.

Swapnil submitted his photograph depicting students of Army Goodwill Public School of Drass, which is the second coldest inhabited place in the World which bagged First prize after being judged by the special jury in under 15 years category.

Swapnil who loves to travel clicked this photograph during his tour in that area.

The most important and strong element of Swapnil photograph was its ability to communicate with the viewer.

His sister Swapnila, a State Level numero uno in NHPC Painting competition also participated  in Painting as well as Photography competition.

Her photograph clicked of NCC cadets won consolation prize in the same category.

Says their proud mother Sarmistha Acharya,”I am very happy with my children’s achievements,” adding that Swapnil is keen in photography since childhood. She revealed though they were from a tiny hamlet of Digsui in Hooghly West Bengal, but are stationed in Jammu for many years.

She is of the view that as civilians if they can contribute a minimum for the Armed Forces by projecting their hard work and positive image in J&K, it would give immense satisfaction to the family.

Expressing gratitude for the amazing support extended by the well wishers, Mrs Sarmistha Acharya said that messages of congratulations especially those received from senior Armed forces officials including retired Army chiefs, retired Air chief, retired Army commanders of Northern and Western Command and especially the present Adjutant General, GOC Northern Command and Chief of Staff Western Command has boosted the morale of both children .

All of these men of honour while expressing joy on the rare feat of children , sent them blessings for success in life. She also disclosed that children now are confident to achieve greater heights.

It may be noted that The Northern Command and Western Command are doing an excellent job under Operation Sadbhavana (Goodwill) which is an unique humane initiative undertaken by Indian Army in the State of Jammu & Kashmir to address aspirations of people affected by scrooge of terrorism.

Operation Sadbhavana is perhaps, the only ‘Winning of Hearts and Minds” initiative in the world wherein, an Army embroiled in conduct of intense Counter Terrorism operations is also actively assisting civil administration to bring back normalcy and a Smile on Every Face.

The Social Media section of ADGPI at Army HQ and others are doing a great job to connect people of J&K specially youth with mainstream.
