J&K Fencer leaves for Italy for World Fencing Championship

A fencer from the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been selected to participate in the World Fencing Championship to be played from April1 to 9 at Verona, Italy.

“Ace fencer Tariq Hussain, son of Afzal Hussain from Jammu, has been selected for prestigious Junior and Cadet, World Fencing Championship and he had left to participate in the event,” an official here said.

He said that Tariq will play in foil event in junior category.

The fencer has already individual Gold medal in 62nd National School Games in his kitty besides team Gold medal in All-India Inter-University 2017-18, team Silver medal in 12th cadet National Fencing Championship, team Silver medal in 3rd U-23 National Fencing Championship, team Silver medal in 4th  U-23 National Fencing Championship and team Bronze medal in 61th National School Games.

However, Tariq before leaving for Italy here said that he has always been supported by his family and the Coach Rachna Jamwal, posted with the J&K State Sports Council. He thanked his coach for always being supportive and giving him best of the special training.

The fencer also expressed gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council and J&K Amateur Fencing Association.
