Srinagar, December 17

Undeterred  by  criticism  over compensation  for Khalid Muzzaffar Wani , the elder brother of Burhan Wani the militant leader,  the Jammu and Kashmir Government , will go ahead with the compensation of Rs 4 lakh or a job to a member of his family

The district administration of  Pulwama , which had cleared the case  of compensation  for Burhan’s brother   subject to objections within a week since December 12, according to the informed sources, has been told to go ahead by its original decision by the higher authorities .

Chief Minister Mehbooba  Mufti  had made her intentions clear when , while speaking at a Commando training Centre, Lethpora, Pulwama,  when she had   stressed for “ differentiating between militants and their families” and warned against a bias against them simply because they happened to be   “ parents, siblings of the militants.” This is unfair. It fuels alienation , she had stated on  Wednesday.

The Pulwama administration  has been told that  the objections for objection sake  should be  dismissed .

Since Khalid has been deemed  uninvolved in militancy that should be the sufficient base for compensation for him. He should be treated and viewed as  innocent victims of the excessive use of force, the sources disclosed.

Khalid was killed in a cross fire in Tral forests in April last year.

The army had claimed that he was an overground worker of Hizb-ul-Mujahadeen , but the police ruled out this perception .

The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party and some other groups have raised objection, while BJP, the alliance partner in the PDP-led coalition government , is maintaining an intriguing silence.

The Indian media has picked up holes in the compensation for Khalid, but the latest stand of the  state government is that it would not alter its list or nature of compensation under any pressure.
