Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned a statement emnating from a cleric in Kashmir urging the Muslims in India to demand a separate state for themselves.

In her message posted on the micro-blogging site  Twitter ,  Mehbooba Mufti  said : “ I strongly condemn any statement  made asking Muslims in India to demand  a separate  State.”

Though she did not name any one , but it was clearly in response to the statement made by Deputy  Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam  at a press onference in Srinagar on Tuesday that the Muslims in India should demand a separate nation. He had aid that, “ When Muslims had reached the population of 17 crore, they had  got Pakistan, now their number in India  is more than that, hence they should opt for  a separate state for themselves.”

Mehbooba underlined that  “ J&K was neither a party to the partition of our Country nor did we we support division on religious lines. We as a  state opted for the opposite but unfortunately are stiull paying the price .”
