Jammu, December 31

Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar  who retired on  Saturday  is being considered for the post of the Chief Vigilance Commissioner  in place of Kuldeep Khoda, who is completing his term as CVC by March-2017.

Rajendra who was being   pushed for extension of  three more months by the  Ministry of Home  Affairs for his long experience for dealing with militancy, insurgency and street unrest in  his  32-year long association with the state ,  found the Chief Minister   Mehbooba Mufti  uninterested in it .

She , according to sources, however was amenable to  the idea of appointing him to a suitable position after his retirement. The Chief  Vigilance Commissioner’s post is falling vacant in next three months, he could be considered for that position , the sources privy to the  developments ,  told JKNT.

There was also a proposal to  appoint K Rajendra  as the Chief Information Commissioner , the head of the state information commission. But that proposal of having a retired police officer  to that post  is being debated. The balance has tilted, if all goes well, in favour of K Rajendra taking over as next CVC.

It may be mentioned here that 1986 batch IPS officer S P Vaid is taking over  as the new DGP of the state police.
