Former MP and PDP leader Tariq Hameed Karra is most likely to join Congress as head of its state unit in Jammu and Kashmir, according to reliable sources in the party.
Tariq Karra is likely to join Congress in the near future if all the arrangements being worked out to give him suitable position and say in the party affairs and state are completed in time. The announcement in this regard may come soon, sources said without specifying the time frame.
Karra, who was a minister in the Ghulam Nabi Azad government as PDP representative, had two options – one to float his own party or to join Congress.
He has apparently chosen to join Congress party , with which his family had a long association . Former Chief Minister late Ghulam Mohammad Sadiq was his uncle.
Tariq Karra had fallen apart with PDP twice , once during the time when he lost election from Batmaloo constituency in Srinagar and distance grew between him and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He had challenged the party’s way of working but he was persuaded to join the mainstream of the party and contest parliamentary elections , which he won by defeating National Conference president Farooq Abdullah in May 2014 . But he was against PDP joining hands with BJP.
However, during the peak of the 2016 unrest in Kashmir, Karra resigned from Lok Sabha seat and the party .
