Srinagar, January 14 ( JKNT)
Separatists have further scaled down the level of protests in the next fortnight beginning January 16 with only Fridays being the shut down days , while all other days have been exempted from the general strikes, though they have called for observance on January 26 and no relaxation on the Indian Republic Dat.
Initially, the separatists had started announcing relaxation for the night hours, later it was extended to two days and then five days, but now the latest protest calendar has further reduced the shutdowns to Fridays only.
The separatist leaders had been calling for protests since the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8 last year.
However, the public pressure has made the separatists to change and soften their harsh spell of agitation and protests, which already has claimed more than 90 lives.
Recently, the state government had announced Rs. 5 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the unrest, which is now being opposed by PDP’s alliance partner BJP.
