Various organizations called for Kathua bandh on Friday following police action against protestors in Chadwal at Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.

Activists of Hindu Ekta Manch led by president Vijay Sharma took to the NH at Chadwal Morh and protested against the state government demanding CBI probe into the minor’s rape and murder.

“As Section 144 imposed at NH, polioce stopped the protestors, but they continued and then police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protestors,” said official sources and added that as soon as the protestors were cane charged and the leaders were detained by police. Local businessmen shut down their shops at Chadwal and Hiranagar remained shut down and also joined the protestors.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) president and former MLA, Balwant Singh Mankotia also joined the protestors and police detained him along with dozens of supporters at Hirnagar police station. The panther leader was later released, where as Hindu Ekta Manch Vijay Sharma and other leaders were still in police custody.

Around 100 protestors, who were detained from Chadwal were shifted to District Police Lines in Kathua.
