A top Al-Badr Commander Zeenat-ul-Islam was among the two militants killed in a gunfight with government forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Sources said that Zeenat-ul-Islam is among two militants killed after an encounter between government forces and militants broke out Saturday evening in Yaripora area of Kulgam district.

Join team of forces started a cordon and search operation in Katapora village following information about the presence of militants there, sources said.

“As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at security forces, triggering an encounter”, police said.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in Kulgam and Shopian districts, sources added.

A key recruiters Zeenat is one of three militants surviving from Army’s most list of 12 most wanted militants.

Zakir Musa is number one.
Clashes between stone-pelting youth and security forces are going on near the site of the gunfight, sources said.

Security forces are using tear smoke to quell the protesters.
