Srinagar, January 03

A long dry spell in Kashmir valley ended on Tuesday as the region received widespread rain and the winter’s first snow.

The snowfall was received in several districts of Kashmir, mostly located in south Kashmir. It is the winter’s first snowfall.

State’s summer capital Srinagar received  intermittent rainfall since early morning and is likely to continue for several days.

The Srinagar Meteorological Centre had forecast that the intensity and spread of rain and snow will increase over next two days.

The wet spell is likely to continue throughout the week with differing intensity, the centre said.

The rain and snowfall in the region brought a much-needed respite from the long dry spell marked by decreased or nil precipitation during the past several months.
