To inculcate the habit of cleanliness amongst the students and staff of the University of Jammu and to make them aware about the noble mission of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ of Govt. of India, Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu has organized ‘SWACHHTA PAKHWADA’ between 1st to 15th of November, 2016.

In this connection a programme of Mass Pledge & Signature Campaign followed by Swachhta Rally and cleanliness drive in the campus was conducted today which was attended by a huge gathering.  Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest at the occasion.

In his address, Prof. Keshav Sharma stressed on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, he cited different examples which signify that we Indians inherit a very rich and glorifying heritage and it’s our moral responsibility to preserve it and keep it neat and clean.

He encouraged the gathering which consisted of Deans, Rectors, Directors, Teachers, Students, Scholars and Staff of the University of Jammu to aspire and do voluntary efforts to make their University the cleanest University.

Earlier, in her welcome address Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare elaborately explained the importance and aim of the Swachhta Pakhwada which University of Jammu is celebrating under the aegis of Govt. of India. She also led a rousing pledge which was undertaken by all to keep the campus and the society clean. She informed that different programmes like Essay Writing competition and Skit Competition under the topic of Swachh Bharat would also follow in this series. The whole campus was divided into four zones and an ardent cleanliness drive was undertaken under the leadership of Prof. Satnam Kour, Prof. Renu Nanda, Prof. Yash Pal and Mr. Aman Sharma. The drive was supported by the heads of the departments, members of Campus Cultural Committee, Students Cultural Council, staff and students.

An inspiring song related to Swachhta was also presented at the occasion by the students of Institute of Music and Fine Arts which was composed by Sh. Suraj Singh. Fine Arts students of IMFA are also thematically painting the walls of University under the guidance of Sh. Harsh Vardhan.  The noteworthy aspect of this programme was that each and everyone was emotionally involved in this mission and was rendering voluntary service for the cleanliness of their own campus.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Sumeet Sharma and Ms Ifra Kak under the guidance of Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Chairman Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. S.K. Pandita Co-Chairman Campus Cultural Committee, Dr. Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare, Dr. A.R. Manhas, Dr. Parmil Kumar, Assistant Deans SW. The event was conducted by Sunakshi Ganotra. The sound was operated by Kulbhushan Thakur.
