PDP president and former Chief Minister  Mehbooba Mufti  today apologised  for her “ toffee “ remarks made for the young boys who would throng the army camps   and get killed during the massive eruption of violent  protests following the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani  in July 2016.

Positioning herself as an angry mother  whose children refused to listen and participated in the life-threatening situations in those fateful days , Mehbooba Mufti told a gathering at  Bijbehra on the occasion of the third death anniversary of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed , that  it was  her “ inner hurt” that made to her make those remarks . “ That was because of a mother in me who felt strongly  for the safety of her children , and even if that has hurt  some people, I hereby apologise to all of them.”

Her emotional streaks  were open time and again during her close to half-an-hour speech , when she recalled that how her emotional and political commitment to save  Kashmir Valley from the erstwhile party leaders who had approached the RSS headquarters Nagpur to barter the interests of Kashmir . “ I became conscious of my duty  to save Kashmir and wilted under the compulsion to realign with the BJP to save Kashmir from those who could have sold it to BJP.”

“ I stood my ground  and did not compromise even when a massive pressure  was mounted to dilute the status of Kashmir’s identity  and told to compromise on the issues that could have jeopardized Kashmir and its identity .  Had I compromised with the BJP’s agenda , the government would have lasted for six years .”

I got 12,000 cases withdrawn  against the stone pelters, got 10,000 jobs of SPOs  and got so many projects including the medical colleges for “ Islamabad” ( Anatnag) and Baramullah,” she said

She exhorted the youth to come forward and join the PDP  as the  junk has been consigned to the garbage dump where  it belonged , she said of the  party leaders who deserted the  party and joined other outfits.
