Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti came down heavily on the war cries being raised in India and Pakistan and demanded that the two nuclear-powered nations in South Asia should behave as responsible nations in the world.

Mehbooba Mufti , who was speaking at a function here on Wednesday significantly took upon the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , and Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan   for giving a go by to the 19th South Asia Association Regional Cooperation ( SAARC)   to be held in Pakistani capital Islamabad in November.

She said, “ it was shocking that while the world was fostering new economic ties,” the South Asian nations were moving in opposite directions.” Indirectly , she criticized the Prime Minister for having announced the boycott of the SAARC summit , without even once referring to the September 18th   attack by Pakistan sponsored terrorists on the Indian army in the border town of Uri in north-west Kashmir , which   made India to   administer this diplomatic snub to Pakistan .

She said that “ conciliation , not confrontation , would yield the results, and advised Delhi and Islamabad to revive the Atal Behari Vajpayee era spirit of cooperation and conciliation between the two countries.

Mehbooba Mufti, a chronic critic of the 1960 World Bank brokered Indus Water Treaty for its “ unfair mechanism” for Jammu and Kashmir , however said, “while the agreement is beneficial to India and Pakistan , but it is not in the interest of Jammu and Kashmir.” It was not clear whether she was distancing the state from India or talking it as a part of the country.

“However, if the two countries can mutually share the water resources , why not other resources,” she said without making it clear which other resources she was referring to.
