Jammu, April 7:

The Jammu and Kashmir Government under the instructions of the Centre shifted PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to her residence in Srinagar after she had spent more than eight months in detention outside since August 5 last year.

She was arrested hours before Article 370 and Article 35 A were scrapped on August 5 last year.

She was escorted to her Fairview residence on Tuesday afternoon . Her residence was declared as a subsidiary jail, where she will stay in detention under Public Safety Act.

Mehbooba Mufti had led a sustained an aggressive campaign against the moves of the centre to do away with the special status and rights and privileges . She had threatened to launch a do or die campaign . During her detention , she had not modified her views and that explains that while two former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah have been set free, but she continues to be in detention .

Mehbooba was shifted from her residence in the wee hours of August 5 last year , few hours before the Centre did away with the special status of J&K under Article 370 and special rights and privileges of the permanent residents of the state under Article 35 A. The announcement of the split of the state was also made on the same day.

The Centre may revoke her detention in the due course of time
