Srinagar, December 2
All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman and chief cleric of Kashmir
has been released from the house arrest, and he would be addressing Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid after 20 weeks.
Hundreds of devotees have gathered at Jamia Masjid to offer prayers and hear the chief cleric at the historic mosque, which was shut until last Friday because of the unrest. The jubilant crowds gathered to receive the Mirwaiz.
The authorities had clamped incessant curfew in Nowhata area of the down town where the grand mosque is located to prevent trouble, which had gripped many parts of the Valley following the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahadeen commander Burhan Wani on July 8 ( also Friday).
Mirwaiz and other leaders in Kashmir had taken the PDP-BJP government to task for closing down of the mosque and denial of prayers to the devotees. Friday prayers hold a special place in the religious duties of Muslims.
Kashmir is an exclusively Muslim populated Valley, though there is a minor fraction of minorities.
