Jammu, Feb 8:

A delegation of Sanskritik Group led by Member Legislative Council (MLC) Vikram Randhawa, today called upon Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and demanded rectification regarding holiday on Holi.

According to the deputation the festival of Holi is being observed across the country on March 2 with religious fervor but according the calendar issued by the government of Jammu and Kashmir holiday has been declared on March 1.

Vikram apprised the Chief Minister that the Holi is observed the day following Phagun Purnima according to Hindu rituals but in our State it is being observed on the day of Phagun Purnima and the holiday is also declared on the same day.

He urged upon the Chief Minister to issue directions to the General Administration Department (GAD) for the rectification of the holiday and declared it on March 2instead of March 1 so that the Hindus of Jammu and Kashmir can celebrate their festival of colours with the rest of the country.

The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them to do the needful.

Earlier, MLC Vikram Randhawa also raised the issue in the Legislative Council as reported by the JK News Today.
