Srinagar, September 10:

The Central Working Committee of  National Conference  is meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday  to chalk out its strategy regarding the forthcoming  local bodies and  Panchayat polls  in Jammu and Kashmir in a bid to endorse its president  Farooq Abdullah’s call for boycott of these polls.

The working committee is meeting  amid the reports that the Governor Satya Pal Malik’s  administration will go ahead with the polls despite the boycott calls made by National Conference and also  the re-think that the PDP is having over the  participation in polls.

PDP is holding a crucial meeting in Srinagar on Monday to decide on  participation on the polls.

The PDP chief  Mehbooba Mufti wants to have a comprehensive view of the situation  in the Valley that has  arisen because of the legal battle on Article 35 A   having been connected to the  holding of these polls . This has mystified the  political groups in Kashmir who don’t see any reason why it should have been linked to the polls  as that amounts to giving rise to apprehensions  of all sorts  that there is some mischief  in the making with regard to the Article 35 A that confers special rights and privileges to the hereditary permanent residents of the  State.
