Former joint secretary in University Grants Commission (UGC), Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir has been appointed as the new registrar of the Kashmir University.

His appointment was cleared by the vice-chancellor of KU, Prof. Talat Ahmad. The notification for appointment of the new registrar for the varsity was issued last year.

Meanwhile on Monday, Nisar Ahmad Mir assumed his office as the new registrar of the varsity.

Mir was earlier performing his duties as registrar National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

Bedsides looking after various bureaus in UGC Mir was country head for the prestigious National Academic Depository (NAD) project as well.

He has previously worked as deputy registrar at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri, and also as Joint Registrar at Kashmir University (KU).

Besides his administrative experience, Mir has doctorate in Sociology and has edited four books as well.

He has published 30 research papers and has worked on nine research projects funded by different ministries.
