Jammu, January 9 Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah launched a scathing attack on her successor Mehbooba Mufti and called her “ incompetent” and “ dismal failure” , while charging her with puncturing the democratic institutions .
In a raw verbal attack on Mehbooba Mufti , in which he sought to sow a disconnect between her and her party lawmakers as also the ally BJP, Omar Abdullah called her “ incompetent to perform her constitutional duties” and unable to govern the state.
Omar came to the Legislative Assembly for the first time since the budget session opened with Governor N N Vohra’s address to the joint session of the State legislature on January 2, was all fire and brimstone against the government . His target was Mehbooba Mufti all the time dur9ng his speech.
He took on her by referring to Governor’s speech on Monday wherein he had charged her government not taking adequate measures to move forward . “ Governor Sahab made these remarks when he felt free to air his views,” and he added : “ What Governor Sahab said in his official address to mark the beginning of the budget session was a read out from speech scripted by your government..’
In his typical style, Omar took on the Mehbooba Mufti government by picking one point after another in a serial manner .
Comparing the three years of the Mehbooba Mufti Government with the three years since 2002 when her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was Chief Minister of the State , Omar Abdullah said “ a lot was done.” He also complimented Ghulam Nabi Azad for having created new districts ( he had set up eight new districts taking the number of districts from 14 to 22) and set up many institutions during his two and a half year tenure of Chief Ministership.”
“ You have wasted three years. There is nothing you an show on the ground” he said and touched her political raw nerve when he accused of her shying away from holding the Anantnag parliamentary by-poll under the ruse that the conditions were not conducive . “ Separatists had always sought disruption of the polls, but polls were never cancelled under their pressure since 1996,” he reminded her.
Omar who also is working president of his party National Conference was quite aggressive when he charged the Chief Minister with having no intention to hold the Panchayat polls. “ We know, it for certain that you don’t want Panchayat polls, you have made the announcement out of some compulsion and we are not sure whether you would be actually holding ( Panchayat ) polls.”
He said that “not only the opposition, but also your ( Mehbooba Mufti) allies and your own party men were not happy with your performance . You are a dismal failure.”
National Conference leader also said that the BJP would have burnt Chief Minister’s effigies all across the country , had they been not in the alliance government . “ They are disappointed by your performance.”
