National Conference vice president and  former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah  today lashed out a section of bureaucracy that he accused of sabotaging the Assembly elections to further their self-interests.

Omar who is deeply anguished by the delay in the announcement of the Assembly polls  for he apprehends that some officers holding key positions and were working to “ scuttle democracy in  Jammu and Kashmir where the Election Commission did not announce the simultaneous General and Assembly elections  on March 10 citing security reasons that were used as an alibi by the State government and the ministry of home affairs to delay the Assembly elections in the state.

Omar gave vent to his anger on Twitter on Monday , where he tweeted  “I’m shocked to hear how officers who have supported early assembly elections are being browbeaten & threatened using their performance appraisals against them to get them to toe the line.”

He went on to add “Some have no stakes in the state & some are looking at post retirement postings in cushy appointments. What ever their reasons they have chosen to put their personal interest ahead of the greater good.”

He also promsed that  honest officer should fear these threats. We must put the greater good  ahead of our personsl  personal preferences and benefits .those people making the threats will not  remain in the state for very long.”
