Pakistan  suffers from  historical amnesia . Nothing else could explain  its  charge against Indi that the country was having aggressive designs when it rightfully reiterated that India will have physical jurisdiction over Pakistan occupied Jammu and  Kashmir.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made a statement of facts on Tuesday when he said that “ Our position  on ( PoJK)  is, has always been and will always be very clear . ) Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir is part of India  and we expect one day that we will have the jurisdiction, physical jurisdiction over it.”

Pakistan’s bid to ask the international community to take note of India’s “ aggressive posturing”  is a  clear attempt to distort the history .

The fact is that India has all the legal, political , and diplomatic rights to claim the physical jurisdiction over Pakistan occupied Kashmir , for the simple reason that the whole of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir had acceded to India in October 1947. Pakistan was an aggressor for it had sponsored an invasion of the  state by its tribesmen  to annex the state , and that was repulsed by the Indian forces following signing of the instrument of accession by the last king of J&K, Maharaja Hari  Singh. He had acceded the whole of the territory of J&K to India .

Indian forces would have  recaptured  all the territories occupied by  the Pak invaders had India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal  Nehru not  taken the matter to the United Nations  that effected a ceasefire .

Second fact that Pakistan should know is that what it calls a “ disputed territory”, is India’s territory .   A natural sequel to the backdrop of Maharaja Hari Singh’s accession of the state to India is that the whole of J&K is part  of India , including PoJK. Alongside lies the fact that the UN did not give any part of the territory to Pakistan . Instead, the global body had asked Pakistan to vacate the territory of its nationals and armed forces  if the plebiscite was to be held . Pakistan has not done that.

So far as India is  concerned , it has exercised its sovereign right  in doing away with the special status granting provisions to Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian constitution . It is  India’s internal matter, Pakistan has no right to speak even a word about it.

Now regarding PoJK , it will have to accept the reality and historicity of the instrument of accession , which is the only valid thing in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, and as per that historical part , Pakistan has no legal claim over what it calls “ Azad Kashmir.” It would be in the interest of Pakistan to vacate the territory and  handover its jurisdiction to its legal claimant , India.. And, it should apologise  to India for keeping the territory under its illegal occupation for over seven decades
