After facing so much embarassment during Budget Session 2018 on the issue of compensatiom to the farmers in lieu of their land falls under much-hyped ring road projects at Jammu and Srinagar Cities, finally the state government has decided to sit on table to final the compensation.

Sources in government  said that Revenue Minister, AR Veeri will chair the meeting on March 22,  at Jammu civil secretariat and BJP MLA Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar will present the issues of farmers.

The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Revenue Officials, and concerned Deputy Commissioner’s and the legislators whose constituencies are being affected with the Ring Road project will also participate in the meeting.

It is worth mentioning that the issue of compensation on fewer rates was raised strongly during Budget Session 2018 in the State Legislative Assembly by BJP MLA Choudhary Sukhnandan left his own government red faced, on number of occasions. The MLA Marh also staged protest in the well of the House demanding compensation to the farmers whose land is being acquired by the Government for constructing Ring Road project.

MLA Choudhary Sukhnandan also confirmed that there is meeting on March 22 and he is going to participate and put forward the demands of farmers for compensation of genuine rates.

“I will put forward farmers issue strongly as this is a genuine case concerning rights of my farmers,” Sukhnandan said and added that even many farmers have approached Court for this, but if government agreed according to our demands, the farmers will allow the work of ring road to pursue.

A total number of 11528 farmers are going to be affected due to the construction of Semi Ring Roads around Jammu and Srinagar cities.

According to state government, the compensation is being paid to the farmers or land owners in lieu of their land coming under the alignment under the provision of J&K Land Acquisation Act, While the agitating farmers alleged that the rates given to them are much less and also not at par with the rates in Srinagar.
