With pellet horror returning to Kashmir since last Sunday, the ruling PDP MLAs Thursday said that “enough is enough” and demanded that the government should take up the matter with New Delhi to seek complete ban on the use of “lethal weapons”.
Several PDP legislators who spoke to Rising Kashmir demanded that the pellet horror should be stopped and the guns should be banned.
“Enough is enough now…we can’t remain silent on this issue anymore. We can’t see our people showered with pellets,” the MLAs told Rising Kashmir.
MLA Tral Mushtaq Ahmad Shah said that “it is a very serious concern and government has to push for the ban on use of pellet guns.”
“It should be banned completely. People have suffered a lot. Enough is enough now,” he said.
MLA Wachi Aijaz Ahmad Mir, the constituency which has been the epicenter of the present crisis, said the use of pellet guns should be banned. “We have decided to raise the issue with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The pellet guns have created a horror in Shopian… it must be banned,” he said.
MLA Rafiabad Yawar Mir also sought ban on this “lethal weapon”. “This is a lethal weapon and should not be used on humans at all,” he said.
MLA Shopian Mohammad Yousuf Bhat also voiced his concern over the use of pellet guns. “I am against its use. The security forces exercise must observe maximum restraint while dealing with the protesters. It is enough now,” he told Rising Kashmir.
MLA Noorabad, Abdul Majeed Paddar, said that the use of pellet guns is very wrong.
“We have been repeatedly asking the government to stop its use and some alternative should be looked at,” he said.
However, MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Baig said that, “Guns could be stopped if Indian forces leave Kashmir or if Kashmiris realize that this is a political movement and should be handled politically without taking to violent means.”
He said the forces are caught in a “very violent situation” in Kashmir.
“How would one human being pelt stones on another person knowing that the other person is a cop who is majboor and lachaar (helpless and poor). They come here for their bread and butter. They are on the roads for their families. We need to understand their helplessness,” Baig told Rising Kashmir.
