The J&K police have  found nothing wrong in Major Letul Gogoi meeting   a  girl from Beerwah in a Srinagar hotel on Wednesday .

“ There is no  case against Major Gogoi  as there is nothing wrong in meeting any one . The girl  is major and there is no offence in meeting the  girl of this age. There is nothing objectionable  in this .,” an officer privy to the investigations conducted by the police told J K News Today.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone , S P  Pani  had appointed   S P North City, Srinagar, Sajjad Ahmad Shah as the inquiry officer. Shah, in his report, sources told the JKNT, has found no case against the army officer .

The police had instituted its inquiry after Major Gogoi and a girl from Beerwah, Budgam , were found involved in an altercation with staff of Grand Mamta hotel in downtown Srinagar . The hotel staff had  not allowed the local girl to check in  the hotel , where Major Gogoi had booked a room for two persons for the night of Wednesday .

The girl in her statement  before the Magistrate had stated that she knew the army officer and her come on her own .

This, however, does not mean that the army officer cannot face action  under rules in the army. The Army has instituted its own court of inquiry  to determine what kind of offence has been committed by the  officer. This CoI will start its work  after the issuance of  formal notification .

Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat has promised  exemplary punishment to Major Gogoi , if found guilty of having committed any  breach of the army rules.
