Local businessmen and small time vendors today jointly protested against IGP Traffic, J&K, Basant Rath under the banner of National Human Rights (Social Justice Council) State Unit at Akhnoor Road in the City.

Talking to media persons, Sanjay Sharma, secretary of National Human Rights (Social Justice Council) State Unit said that on Wednesday the IGP Traffic visited Akhnoor Road and harassed local businessmen and small time vendors. He also added that he is IG incharge Traffic police and he is not having rights to harass local people, especially those who are law abiding citizens.

Few Rehri vendors also alleged that Basant Rath destroy their fruit, eatables and ice-cream and also threatened them to close their business till his transfer from the position of IGP Traffic. Other than this these protestors also leveled allegations that the senior officer also used unparliamentary language with them and abused them in the open.

“An IPS officer that too at the rank of IGP Traffic is not having rights to destroy business of small time vendors and even he is authorized for traffic system, but he is performing duty of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Jammu Development Authority, Executive Police, Revenue Department and many others, but that too in a worst way,” said Sanjay Sharma and added that similarly he himself not following any rule and forcing others to obey his self-styled rules.

The protestors also accused BJP government for remain as a mute spectator at a time when Jammu’s small time vendors are the real victims of this officer, who is too arrogant that he has not listened to anybody grievances and only slap his own words and rules.
