Dry spell posing threat to water scarcity on mountainous belt: Met official

Jammu, January 23: Getting respite from the long dry spell, Jammu region and south Kashmir will get light rain and snow on the higher reaches today.

The met department of the state predicted light rain/snow in Jammu region and south Kashmir, however the northern Kashmir continues to face the dry spell.

The continuous dry spell in the state this year is not only inviting the viral diseases, but also posing a threat for the mountainous areas on the scarcity of water.

“The light rain is predicted for today only, that too in some parts of the state. There has been no rain and snow in past two months,” said a met official.

“God forbid, if the dry spell continues people of the mountainous belt will face an acute scarcity of water in the state,” he added.

The department however expects some rain and snow in the month of February  and March.

An official of the Met department Srinagar informed JK News Today that it has been observed in past few year that the trend of  the rain/snow has been extended from December January to January-February.
