State Human Rights Commission has taken a suo motto  cognizance of the  pellet   eye injury victims  and demanded  that Deputy Commissioners  of  all the 10 districts in the Kashmir Valley submit their reports to the Commission  before February  3.

The SHRC, according to an official  release ,  took suo motto notice  of the media  reports  of the eye injuries received  by  people  during the five-month-long unrest . The Commission has mainly sought technical details  as to how many were injured, what treatment facilities were made  available to them  and if any compensation was paid.

Chairperson, Jammu & Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Justice (retd) Bilal Nazki today directed the Deputy Commissioners of all the 10 districts of Kashmir to submit a detailed report of all the victims who have sustained eye injuries during the recent disturbances in the valley.

SHRC Chairman has directed the DCs to include details of victims, date and place of injury, extent of injury, treatment given and compensation paid if any to them. He has asked for the report containing the requisite information to be submitted to the Commission by or before 3 February 2017.

The SHRC has further said that the citizens and victims may also approach the Commission with useful information on their own.

Pellet guns were used during the  clashes with the stone-throwing protestors in Kashmir in which more than 300 persons, mostly young, received eye injuries. Some of them have lost their eye sight  for rest of their lives .
