SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 22:

The Housing and Urban Development Department today made it clear that both Srinagar and Jammu cities have been included in the list of Smart Cities and a formal announcement in this regard would be made soon.

A spokesman of the H&UDD said the State Government is already working on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to be submitted to the Government of India for inclusion of the twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu in the Smart City initiative.  He said out of the 100 cities to be undertaken under the project announced by the Centre only one city from the State was to be taken up, but due to the intervention of the State Government the Centre has agreed to take up two capital cities from J&K under the Smart City initiative.

The spokesperson further said that the recently announced cities to be undertaken under the smart city initiative were from the initial lot to be undertaken under this flagship programme.
