Gujarat has suffered three earthquakes within 24 hours. The latest one, felt in Kutch, measured 4.1 on the Richter scale.

New Delhi, June 15:

Third earthquake within 24 hours has rattled Gujarat’s Kutch region. The latest one struck near Bachau in Gujarat’s Kutch region at 3.56 pm on Monday.

According to the Bhuj seismology department, the magnitude of the earthquake was measured 4.1 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was 6 kmilometres north-northwest of Bhachau.

This is the second earthquake to strike the region on Monday and third within 24 hours. Earlier in the day, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake had hit the same area at around 12:57 pm. On Sunday, earthquake measuring 5.3 on Richter scale had hit the region. The epicentre of all three earthquakes has been near Bhachau in Kutch district.

Apart from three major earthquakes, the area has also felt as many as 15 aftershocks since Sunday. The tremors have instilled fear in the local residents. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

Kutch region of Gujarat falls under a very high-risk seismic zone. An earthquake in 2001 had killed over 13,000 people in the district. Over 1.5 lakh people were injured and lakhs of houses had been wiped out.
