JAMMU, JANUARY 14: Stressing for attitudinal change to improve the public perception, Director General of Police, (DGP), S. P. Vaid has said that people’s role in effective policing would help to curb drug trafficking and other crimes in the State. He said that police has to remain on the forefront to gain public confidence for better deliverance.

Vaid was speaking at a meeting of senior police officers of South Kashmir at District Police Lines, Anantnag today. The meeting was held to review the security scenario and law and order situation in the districts of South Kashmir.

Addressing the meeting, DGP stressed upon the officers to evolve an effective mechanism and planning for dealing with the crime, particularly the drug menace in their jurisdictions. He also stressed for synergy at all levels to achieve better results.

DGP said that with the active cooperation of the public, Jammu and Kashmir police has faced the various situations. The force has always ensured to avoid loss collateral damages, while dealing with the situations. He asked to focus community policing to involve the people in maintaining peace and order in the state. Local problems of the people could be addressed at the lowest level and the senior officers should supervise the progress for accountability and transparency.

Vaid said that innovative mechanism needs to be followed by the law enforcing agencies to thwart the ill designs of anti social elements. Synergy among the forces with better public cooperation and monitoring at different levels would yield better result of our efforts in maintaining peace in the State. The forces have to ensure safety and security of the common people, while conducting anti-militancy operations, Dr. Vaid added.

During the meeting, DIG SKR, S. P. Pani, gave a detailed power point presentation about the security, law and order situation in the districts of South Kashmir and apprised the meeting about the measures taken to maintain the law and order in the Range. SSsP and SsP of districts Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Awantipore also briefed the meeting.

Among others, the meeting was attended by SSsP/SsP, Shridhar Patil, Rayees Mohammad, Zubair Ahmed, Tahir Saleem, Aijaz Rasoo, Aijaz Ahmed Zargar, Azhar Bashir Baba, Ifroz Ahmed and Mohammad Zaid.

Earlier DGP visited Pahalgam and inspected the execution of construction works being carried out. He discussed the pace of progress of these constructions with the concerned officers and executing agencies and directed them to follow standards quality in the constructions.
