In an exclusive interview with Times Now, Home Minister Amit Shah said that CAA will not be rolled back at any cost and dared the opposition to say that all Pakistanis will be given Indian citizenship.

New Delhi, December 17:

Home Minister Amit Shah, on Tuesday, said that the Citizenship Amendment Act will not be rolled back at any cost. In an exclusive interview with Times Now, Shah said that NRC was brought by Congress. The promise to implement NRC was made by Rajiv Gandhi. “Which country in the world does not have a register of its own citizens,” he asked.

“I want to ask opposition parties, can they announce tomorrow that citizenship will be extended to every Pakistani,” he further said. Justifying the CAA move, Shah said that the bill is not meant for Indian citizens, but for individuals seeking Indian citizenship. Blaming the Congress party and the opposition for ‘misleading’ students on the Citizenship Amendment Act, Shah said that citizenship is not a state issue and that statements by West Bengal CM that NRC and CAA will not be implemented in her state are mere ‘headlines’.

Expressing confidence that the act will pass all the legal tests, including opposition’s decision to challenge the act in the apex court, Shah said that the law was passed by both the Houses of the Parliament and not behind closed doors like ‘Andhra division’.

Commenting on Ram Temple matter, Shah said that a trust for the construction of a Ram temple will be created within 90 days and assured that no BJP leader will be a part of the trust.
