Citizens Take Pledge to Conserve Energy

Earth hour 2017 was today celebrated across the state of Jammu & Kashmir with a large number of citizens and institutions becoming partner for this energy conservation campaign. This day is celebrated around the world to renew the pledge by every section of the society towards energy conservation. This years Earth Hour saw participation from the top leadership of the state as well as from all the sections of the society. At Jammu N N Vohra Governor of Jammu & Kashmir issued a special message wherein he led this campaign by putting off all the non essential lights at Raj Bhavan Jammu during Earth Hour. He also called upon all commercial, social, governmental establishments, educational institutions and the people across Jammu & Kashmir to observe Earth Hour. In her message Chief Minister MehboobaMufti expressed her happiness over Government of Jammu & Kashmir joining hands with WWF for spreading awareness about energy conservation. On this occasion she called upon the people of the state to take a pledge to save environment which calls for redoubling our efforts to save planet earth from the emerging threat of climate change.
Prestigious educational institutions of the state specially the University of Kashmir and Central University of Jammu were also part of this energy saving movement in Kashmir and in Jammu respectively. On this occasion university of Kashmir took a practical action also by putting thousands of LED bulbs in their campus. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Director, Department of Information and Public Relations and Pankaj Chandan, WWF-India’s Head in the State of Jammu & Kashmir expressed their satisfaction over the success of this awareness raising campaign. This campaign will inspire citizens specially our younger generation to take individual action for saving energy and for protecting environment.
